The Backyard Classic Rules
 
On - Ice – Absolutely no Parents, Spectators or Players not in a current game allowed
                          on–ice in between rinks during game play.
We are asking that Team Players help with on-ice shoveling before, after and during the 2-minute intermission between periods. (This will help our volunteer network)

1.  Equipment

A. ALL PLAYERS must wear a helmet with full cage or visor.
B. All teams must have similarly colored uniforms.
C. Gloves, shin, elbow pads are recommended.
D. Full equipment allowed.
E. Goalies may wear full equipment and must wear skates, no boots.

2.  The Game

A. Division Games - Two- 9 minute running time periods with a 2 minute intermission to shovel.
  • Mercy Rule - Games with a difference of 7 goals will be ended.
w/ 5 minutes left in the second period.
  • Tie games will go to a 3 man shoot out
  • If still tied after 3 shooters, sudden-death 1-man shootout will be used.
 
B.  Adult Divisions - (14U and up) 3v3 plus goalie, max 6 player roster. Except 14U Girls,                          
 4v4 plus goalie, max 9 player roster.
C. Youth Divisions - (12U and under) 4v4 plus goalie, max 9 player roster.
D. Playoff Games - Two- 9-minute running time periods with 2-minute intermission to shovel.
  • For seeding tiebreakers will be: (1) Head-to-Head (if applicable) (2) Goals Against (3) Coin Flip
  • Tie in ALL playoffs will be 2 min. overtime, if necessary, a 3-man shootout.
  • All shooters must shoot before repeating shooters
  • If still tied after 3 shooters, sudden-death 1-man shootout will be used.
 
E.  Orange Bauer Pucks used, for payer and spectator safety.
F.  Please arrive 45 minutes before your first scheduled game!

3.  Rules –

  • You must be on time and on-ice prior to the start of each game. Any Team not ready at puck drop will incur a one goal against penalty, and one goal against for every 5 minutes thereafter. If more than 10 minutes late, you will incur a forfeit.
 
  • Penalties will be called by on- ice officials. Any and all penalties result in a penalty shot.
A.  Minor Penalties will result in a penalty shot for the other team.
B.  Major Penalties may result in ejection from the game or tournament.
C.  NO checking, any checking will result in penalty shot for other team.
D.  NO SLAP SHOTS. Violations result in penalty shot for the other team.  
    Repeated violations will result in ejection from game or tournament.
E.  Fighting will result in immediate ejection with no refund.
F.  After a goal the puck will be brought out by the team scored on.
G.  After a frozen puck by the goalie or puck out of play-at least 5 feet of space must be given so that a player may make a hockey play.
H.  We reserve the right to eject any player that does not comply with the tournament rules and/ or tournament staff.  Arguing with referees will not be tolerated and may result in game or tournament ejection.

 4. Canalside
 
  1. No outside food, alcohol or drinks permitted. This will be STRICTLY ENFORCED BY ON-PREMESIS SECURITY, beer and wine served on site and must be purchased.
 
  1. Players or spectators under the age of 21 may NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL (Have ID ready).
 
  1. The Backyard Classic Staff reserves the right to eject any player or spectator who does not comply with the tournament rules and/ or tournament staff.  
Please arrive 45 minutes before your first game for check in and registration.
 
  1. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we are raising money for the critical care of very sick children at Oishei Children’s Hospital. We appreciate your help…we are all volunteering our time.
5. Locker Room Tent – (Heated)

  1.     Located immediately behind The Honda Pavilion– Rink Side.
All MALE ADULT Players are required to change equipment in this heated tent. No changing of equipment in the Honda Pavilion.
 
  1.     Also Located immediately behind The Honda Pavilion– Rink Side.
    ALL YOUTH & GIRL  Players are required to change equipment in this       heated tent. No changing of equipment in the Honda Pavilion.
 
    
6. Registration – All teams must Check in
 
Located in the Honda Pavilion Rink Side. Check in, waiver sheets
(please fill out prior) Waivers are MANDATORY FOR ALL PLAYERS
 
To participate all teams must:
  • -Be paid in full
  • -Have all players with signed waivers
  • -Have proper equipment (see rules above)
